Thu prep 15 Oct: PPI/retail/claims 13:30 London + SCHW/PNC/USB/BNY BMO — TSM beat overnight

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Morning from London. Futures are soft after yesterday's hot CPI and the Nasdaq's ~1.9% washout — ES was roughly −0.3% overnight / NQ a bit heavier — and the calendar stays busy.

Key times (London / New York):
- Before the cash open: SCHW, PNC, USB, BNY, PLD, MRSH (regional banks / brokers wave after BAC's miss)
- TSMC already printed overnight (separate thread) — ADR reaction is the first tape read for SOX
- September PPI + advance retail sales + jobless claims — 13:30 / 08:30
- SCHW Fall Business Update webcast ~13:30 / 08:30 after the print

What changed overnight: Sept CPI came in hot (headline ~3.7% y/y, core ~2.6%) and reopened hike talk — FedWatch odds for an Oct move jumped. ORCL / CRWV / NBIS led the AI-debted names lower into the close. Oil and yields remain the second-order risk for rate-sensitive beta.

Trading plan for me: let the bank/broker prints set the financials tone, then wait for the 13:30 data cluster before fading the first 15 minutes. I am not size-up on SOX solely off the TSM beat until I see how the ADR opens vs yesterday's SOX −4% hangover.

Are you trading the 13:30 PPI/retail cluster, or only the bank prints into the open? And does anyone still fade AI beta after yesterday's rate scare?
