Apple is one of the few big tech laggards on an otherwise green AI/semis bounce today.
What's reported:
- Nikkei Asia (exclusive, multiple sources) says Apple told some suppliers to scale back component production for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. October component orders are reportedly 15–20% below what was originally requested.
- Nikkei says Apple has turned more conservative on shipments since early September. The reasons given are softer demand from late August into October and higher prices, with the memory chip squeeze (AI data-centre demand) pushing build costs up.
- Context: this cycle Apple launched the premium models first (18 Pro, Pro Max and the foldable Duo in September), with the standard model and an upgraded Air due early next year. Part of the order cut may be a timing shift, not pure demand weakness.
The tape:
- AAPL traded about 2% lower pre-mkt and extended to around -3% after the open (24/7 Wall St had it near $331). Skyworks is down about 2% in sympathy, while QCOM is roughly flat.
- The sector split is the interesting part: SOXX is up around 2% while Apple slides, so this looks like an iPhone supply-chain story, not an AI/semis one.
For scalpers:
- It's a report, not company guidance, so headline risk runs both ways. Any supplier comment or denial can snap it back.
- The read-through list is SWKS, QRVO, CRUS, and memory names on the cost angle. Watch whether AAPL can reclaim VWAP after the first hour, or keeps getting sold into every index pop.

Fade the dip on a timing-shift argument, or respect a 15–20% order cut? Anyone trading the suppliers instead of AAPL itself?
