INTC fades, TSM/SPCX bid: Musk confirms early TSMC talks on Texas Terafab — Intel's 14A role in question

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Weekend catalyst that's still driving the semis tape this afternoon. Late Friday, Tim Culpan's Culpium newsletter reported TSMC is exploring a role in Terafab, the SpaceX/Tesla chip venture planned for Grimes County, Texas. Musk confirmed on X on Saturday: "just discussions, but something may come of it." No deal, no structure agreed.

What's been floated (speculation, not terms): TSMC owns and operates the fab with SpaceX/Terafab investing and/or committing to buy volume, or SpaceX takes majority ownership and TSMC brings process tech and operating know-how. Terafab is meant to supply Tesla, SpaceX and xAI exclusively; the initial commitment was ~$16.8B, with total spend across phases talked up to as much as ~$119B.

Why INTC cares: Intel was the first named partner back in April, lined up to supply its 14A process. If TSMC comes in with its own node, that role could shrink to packaging-adjacent or disappear. INTC was down ~4% pre-market (~$114) and was still ~2% red at midday; TSM ~+2%, SpaceX ~+6%.

Scalper read: this is headline-driven, not fundamentals-driven yet. INTC has run hard this year, so I'd watch whether dip buyers defend the pre-market low into the close — a reclaim of VWAP would tell you the market is treating it as noise. Any follow-up from Musk on X is a live risk in both directions.

Are you treating INTC weakness here as a fade or a trend change? Anyone pairing TSM long / INTC short on this headline?
