DKNG ~+5%: BofA upgrades to Buy, PT $27 — calls prediction markets a "win-win" (~$400M 2027 fees + market-making)

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

DraftKings got an upgrade this morning: Bank of America moved DKNG to Buy from Neutral with a $27 price target, about 45% above Friday's close. The core argument is that prediction markets are a "win-win" for DraftKings rather than a threat — BofA sees roughly $400M of fees in 2027 from that business, plus another $200–400M from market making, and points out that the traditional sportsbook has actually grown faster than prediction markets so far.

The stock was up 5%+ pre-market (CNBC). Context: a lot of the bear case on DKNG has been the fear that event contracts eat into regulated sports betting, so a big-bank "it's additive" call goes straight at that narrative.

The open risk hasn't gone away: federal and state rules on event contracts are still unsettled, and DraftKings itself has flagged that regulators could force product changes or put state licences at risk. One upgrade doesn't settle that.

Scalper read: analyst-upgrade gaps in mid-caps often fade into the first hour unless volume keeps building; I'd watch whether DKNG holds above its pre-market low and how FLUT trades alongside it.

Sources (public): CNBC pre-market movers; Investing.com/MarketBeat on the BofA note, Mon 5 Oct.

Anyone trading DKNG on this, or waiting for a fade? Do you buy the "prediction markets are additive" argument, or is regulation still the bigger swing factor?
