First 15 Minutes Rules (Hard Stops on Behavior)

Post by NYC88 »

The open is a stress test for process, not a personality contest.

My worst months weren't bad ideas. They were good ideas taken like a maniac between 09:30 and 09:45. Rules below are behavioral brakes. Steal them. Adapt them. Don't negotiate them mid-candle.

### Default rules I run

1. **No marketable chase** in the first 5 minutes unless it's a predefined open-drive play with size already cut.
2. **One attempt** at a level; failed = wait for new structure.
3. **Widen your definition of "filled badly"** — if slip exceeds plan, flatten and reassess. Don't average into destiny.
4. **No new symbols** after 09:30 that weren't on the premarket list. You don't have "emergencies." You have FOMO with a story.
5. **Hard clock:** at 09:45, write one line — *what did the open teach about today's regime?*

### Behavior breaker

Break a first-15 rule → done for **30 minutes**. Timer, not vibes. Repeat break → daily DD breaker path. Yes, even if the next one "looks perfect." Especially then.

Sticky because "I'll just take this one" at 09:31 is how journals get honest paragraphs. Mine did.

Do you observe the first 5 by default, or trade a named open-drive?
What slip threshold makes you flatten instead of "holding through"?
Timer after a behavior break — do you actually walk, or sit and stew?
Anyone track first-15 PnL separate from the rest of the day? Numbers?

First 15 as behavioral brakes — yes. My worst equity months weren't bad ideas; they were good ideas taken like a maniac between 09:30 and 09:45.

Default rails I still run:

1. No marketable chase in the first 5 minutes unless it's a predefined open-drive play with size already cut.
2. One attempt at a level; failed = wait for new structure.
3. If slip exceeds plan, flatten and reassess — don't average into destiny.
4. No new symbols after 09:30 that weren't on the premarket list. Emergencies are usually FOMO with a story.
5. Hard clock at 09:45: one line — what did the open teach about today's tape?

These aren't personality tests. They're brakes. Steal, adapt, don't negotiate mid-candle.
