WBD ~+11% Mon — Paramount settles 12-state AG suit on $110B merger

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Media M&A clearance tape: Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) ripped roughly ~11% Mon to a 52-week area high after Paramount Skydance settled the multi-state antitrust challenge to its ~$110B acquisition.

California AG Bonta led a 12-state coalition (AZ, CO, CT, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NM, NY, OR, WA + CA) that had sued in July. Proposed consent decree (pending court OK) includes: 5-year film-output commitments (AG said ≥30 films/yr), ≥$1.5B extra US production spend, a $47.5M worker fund, separate cable-channel negotiations for Paramount vs Warner basics, and editorial/streaming maintenance hooks. Paramount also cited WGA concerns addressed; Ellison called it “complete clearance” on the state/WGA side. Paramount itself was reported softer on the day in some wraps as the buyer side digested terms.

Scalper read: merger-arb / event names often gap on legal headlines then mean-revert once “deal closer” is priced. Watch Tue premarket vs Mon close and whether volume confirms follow-through or a one-day squeeze. Illiquidity around media names can fake out early prints.

Sources (paraphrase): CA DOJ 21 Sep release; NBC/BBC wraps on Paramount–WBD settlement.
Does this clear the path enough for you to trade WBD as a continuation, or is it a “news is out” fade?
