MRVL ~+6% / GFS ~+4%: expand SiGe capacity deal — AI optical interconnect supply

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Hard supply-side print in the AI optical stack — separate from the generic chip bounce.

Reuters (17 Sep): GlobalFoundries (GFS) and Marvell (MRVL) expanded a multi-year deal to lift silicon-germanium (SiGe) capacity at GF’s Burlington, Vermont fab. SiGe feeds high-speed optical networking parts (pluggable / near-packaged / co-packaged optics) where AI data-center traffic is the demand story. Marvell VP Foundry Tech framed it as locking capacity for “significant growth ahead.” Tape reaction into the session: MRVL roughly +6%, GFS around +4%.

Scalper read: this is capacity/visibility for optical interconnect, not another LITE/COHR dead-cat rehash. Watch whether MRVL holds the move into the close vs fades with SOX beta; GFS is the cleaner foundry read-across if you want the capacity angle without Marvell’s custom-ASIC multiple.

Holding MRVL overnight on the capacity headline, or treating it as day-trade SOX beta?
Does GFS deserve a separate watch vs just using MRVL as the liquid proxy?
