This was one of the wildest AH tapes last night. IBM closed +3.9% at ~$251.5, spiked as high as ~+11% right after the release, then slid to ~$239–242 (−4–5%).
The print
- Q3 revenue $17.1bn vs ~$16.82bn. Adj EPS $2.95 vs ~$2.86
- Software $7.8bn (+8%, +9% cc). Red Hat +11%, Data +19%, Transaction Processing +9%
- Consulting $5.3bn, flat (+2% cc), slightly below StreetAccount
- Infrastructure +4%, but IBM Z −20% while distributed infrastructure was +31%
- FY26 revenue growth outlook held at 4–5% cc. FCF growth guide nudged up to more than $1bn y/y
Why the fade: the beat was partly helped by deals that slipped from Q2 (about two-thirds of them closed this quarter). The market didn't get a top-line raise to go with it, and after a +4% day into the print, an unchanged guide gave buyers a reason to take profits.
For scalpers: the AH spike-and-reversal leaves a clear range, roughly the $239 AH low and the ~$251.5 prior close. If it opens near the lows, a test of the AH low or a gap-fill attempt is the first thing I'd look at. ACN and the other IT services names may trade off the flat consulting line.

Did anyone trade that AH spike, or do you stay away from extended-hours liquidity? Is IBM a buy at ~$240, or is the guide a ceiling until Q4?
IBM round-trips from +11% to −4–5% AH: Q3 beat on software +9%, but FY revenue guide unchanged and consulting flat
