Morning from London. The weekend "Black Monday" chatter (39 years since 19 Oct 1987) has not shown up in the futures so far.
Where we are (around 07:00 London):
- Nasdaq 100 futures roughly +1% to +1.3%, S&P futures ~+0.5%, Dow futures ~+0.5%. Dip buyers going back into the AI names
- Last week: S&P 500 −1.95% to 7,659.44 (~2% off the 6 Oct record), Nasdaq −4.5%, Dow +0.7%. Friday alone was Nasdaq −2.1%, S&P −1.1%, with MU −5.6% and INTC −5.8%
- CRWV lost ~25% on the week. Goldman's desk says AI and hyperscaler credit spreads are the widest of the year, and Friday saw the second-highest put volume on record behind June
- Asia: Nikkei ~−1.7%, Kospi ~−1.3%, Hong Kong shut for a holiday. Jakarta down another 5% to a six-year low on the MSCI threat
- China Q3 GDP 4.5% y/y vs 4.4% expected, on exports
- Oil a touch softer after the weekend: Brent ~$108, WTI ~$100–101, despite Ukraine hitting a St Petersburg oil terminal and more tanker attacks in the Gulf
Today's tape:
- BMO: Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF), Fifth Third (FITB)
- 13:30 London: Canada CPI
- 15:00 London: NAHB housing index
- AMC: STLD, ZION, WAL, WRB, AGNC, CCK, among others
Big tech prints come later in the week (NFLX Tue, TSLA/META Wed, see the week-ahead thread), so today is mostly about whether the overnight bounce holds once cash opens at 14:30 London. Breadth is the thing I'm watching: a bounce carried by a handful of semis that fades by lunch would look a lot like the rallies we sold last week.

Are you fading a gap-up in NQ at the open, or waiting for the first 30 minutes to show you breadth? And is anyone trading the regional bank prints (FITB, ZION, WAL) after last week's run of results?
Mon prep 19 Oct: NQ futures ~+1% after the worst week since June — CLF/FITB BMO, NAHB 15:00 London, China Q3 GDP 4.5%
