Two big AI supply-chain data points came out overnight, and so far the tape has shrugged.
- TSMC: September revenue ~NT$511.86B, -0.6% m/m and +54.6% y/y. Jan–Sep is NT$3.90T, +41.1%. Full Q3 results and guidance are due next week. For reference, August was +53.3%.
- Samsung: preliminary Q3 operating profit of KRW 107.4T (~$80.2B), the first time above 100T, +782% y/y, on revenue of ~KRW 195T (up ~127%). The stock still slipped ~0.7% in Seoul. eToro's Josh Gilbert summed it up: a record profit that still fell short of expectations. The division breakdown comes later this month.
- US pre-market: Stocktwits had TSM and MU down more than 1% early, with Nasdaq futures ~-0.5% at 4am ET as yields stay high and hopes for a US–Iran deal fade.
For scalpers, "great numbers, red tape" usually means crowded positioning. MU also still has the Taoyuan strike-mandate headline hanging over it.
How I'd play it:
- Watch TSM, MU and SMH against QQQ in the first 15 minutes. If they reclaim pre-market highs quickly, the dip got bought and relative-strength longs are on.
- If they lead lower while the 10y pushes back toward 5.36%, I wouldn't try to catch the knife on "the numbers were good".

Does a record Samsung print that misses the whisper change how you see MU into its next report? Are you trading SMH or single names today?
