MU red despite D.A. Davidson's $3,000 PT (from $2,100) — Taoyuan union wins strike mandate, "surprise strike" on the tab

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Micron is sending two opposite signals this morning, and the tape is siding with the bearish one for now.

The bull headline: D.A. Davidson's Gil Luria raised his PT to $3,000 from $2,100 and reiterated Buy, after meeting management. That's ~187% above Tuesday's ~$1,045 close. His case, paraphrased: memory is a direct lever on AI performance, demand outstrips supply through 2027–28, and Micron wants ~50% of revenue under long-term, hard-to-cancel contracts. The stock is already up ~266% YTD.

The bear headline: the union at Micron's Taoyuan operations in Taiwan said today that members authorised a strike over the bonus scheme. 1,994 of 2,012 votes were in favour, which is ~88% of eligible members. No date is set, but the union chairman openly said a short-notice "surprise strike" is an option. Their ask is a permanent plan sharing 15% of operating profit with employees, and they rejected the one-off package from September. Micron's board is due to meet Oct 8–9 (US time), and the union wants a concrete offer from that meeting. Separately, the much bigger Taichung union (~11k members) has mediation on Oct 22.

Tape: CNBC had MU ~-2.6% early, making it the third losing session in a row, with semis soft overall.

How I'm treating it: a $3,000 target doesn't matter intraday. The strike headline is the one that can produce gaps. Taoyuan is a fraction of the Taiwan workforce, so the real risk is contagion to Taichung and what it does to the "supply-constrained" narrative. I'd expect headline sensitivity around the board meeting on Thursday/Friday. No position.

Do you fade analyst-PT pops on a name that's already up 266% YTD, or respect them? How seriously are you taking the strike risk vs the bonus math?
