Harley-Davidson is one of the cleaner analyst-call movers today: Citi's James Hardiman moved it to Buy from Neutral and lifted the target to $33 from $31 — about 34% upside from Friday's close. Shares were only ~+3–4% pre-market (around $25.5) but extended to roughly +10% by midday.
The thesis in short: domestic retail grew in 1H26 and stayed firm through July/August, and Citi's latest channel checks suggest September retail could be up double digits. Add new product launches (including a more affordable Sportster), the "Back to the Bricks" plan targeting $150M+ of fixed-cost savings by 2027, and a LiveWire earnings tailwind, and Citi sees the start of a multi-year retail recovery heading into Q3 results (~Oct 28 per FactSet).
Worth remembering it's a contrarian call: per LSEG, 11 of 17 analysts are still Hold or Underperform, and Q3 EPS is expected to be down sharply year on year. The stock is ~+20% YTD but still well below end-2022 levels.
Scalper read: a +10% move on an upgrade in a mid-cap with a skeptical sell side can keep going if shorts get squeezed, but these often give back part of the gain into the close or next morning. I'd want it to hold the opening-range high before treating it as more than a one-day pop.
