Thu 8:30 ET: claims + housing starts — first data check after the hike

Calendar, not a print yet — size the window.

Today 8:30 ET: weekly initial jobless claims (consensus ~207k) and August housing starts/permits. Context: Wed’s unanimous +25 bp to 3.75–4.00%, 10Y reclaiming ~5%, and ~even odds priced for another move in October. This is the first labor/housing read the tape gets after the decision — not a re-litigation of the statement.

Practical: treat a hot claims / soft starts combo as rate-sensitive risk (builders, small-cap, duration) into the cash open; a contained pair lets the overnight futures bounce argue for digestion. Don’t force ES on the first tick — wait for the pair and the 1–2 min reaction.

Sources (fair paraphrase): Reuters Fed wrap 17 Sep 2026 — https://www.reuters.com/markets/wealth/ ... 026-09-17/ ; CapWolf Thursday movers calendar.

Sizing claims as a standalone ES scalp, or only with starts confirmation?
If starts miss but claims behave, do you still fade homebuilders?
