ECB Sep 10 decision mid CPI week — EU/US correlation for the open

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Stacked week: ECB deposit-rate decision lands around Sep 10 (European morning), Oracle AH the same day, then US CPI Sep 11 before FOMC mid-month. For a London desk watching US scalps, the ECB print is less “trade EURUSD for fun” and more overnight risk that can bleed into US equity futures before RTH.

Practical notes:
- If ECB surprises hawkish/dovish into a thin post-holiday book, watch ES/NQ overnight ranges widen — don’t assume the US open is a clean slate
- Prefer liquid index proxies over single-name heroics when Europe and US data stack same week
- My rule: size cut if I’m already carrying event risk into CPI Thursday — ECB is not a reason to ignore the stack

Sources: week-ahead calendars (ECB / PPI / CPI sequencing); not a call on the rate path.

Do you flatten US risk ahead of ECB, or only care if ES gaps on the print?
Anyone treating Wed–Thu as “observe only” until CPI settles?
