FOMO is speed without a trigger.
I know the surge — chat, vertical candle, someone else's winner green in the feed. Hands want to move. Rule below is a speed bump. Not enlightenment. A speed bump.
Rule
When you feel the surge:
1. Hands off mouse/hotkeys.
2. Three breaths — slow.
3. Read aloud: ticker, trigger, invalidation, size.
4. If any field is missing → no trade.
5. If all fields exist and match the premarket plan → trade is allowed, still at planned size.
What it is not
A meditation brand. Permission to take the trade after breathing if the plan still says skip. A loophole to add size because you "felt calm." Calm with wrong size is still wrong size.
Pairing with first-15 rules
Most FOMO spikes cluster at the open and into verticals. If first-15 says observe, breathing does not override the clock. Clock wins. Breath is just how you hear the clock.
Logging
Tag FOMO_URGE whether you traded or not. Urges that don't become clicks are wins for process stats. Track weekly count — falling urge-to-click conversion is real improvement. I've celebrated quiet weeks that looked boring on PnL and beautiful on process.
Do you tag FOMO_URGE even when you don't click?
What field fails most often when you read aloud — invalidation or size?
First-15 observe vs FOMO surge — which wins on your desk today?
Weekly urge-to-click conversion — tracking it?
FOMO 3-Breath Rule
Re: FOMO 3-Breath Rule
FOMO as speed without a trigger — good definition. The 3-breath rule is a speed bump, not enlightenment, which is why it works on a busy US open.
I use the same sequence: hands off mouse and hotkeys → three slow breaths → read aloud ticker, trigger, invalidation, size → any missing field means no trade. If all fields exist and match the premarket plan, the trade is allowed at planned size only. Breathing is not permission to size up because you "feel calm now."
Pairing with first-15 rules matters on equities because FOMO spikes cluster at the open and into vertical candles. If first-15 says observe, breathing does not override observe. Same for chat magnets and someone else's green screenshot — those are speed without your trigger.
What it is not: a meditation brand, a loophole after a skipped setup, or a way to add size. Calm with wrong size is still wrong size.
