Two European electrification names are trading heavy this morning, and both feed straight into the US data-centre power trade.
ABB (Zurich, ABBN) is down about 5–6% even though Q3 orders hit a record:
- Orders +40% to $12.06bn, with data-centre orders roughly tripling. Electrification orders +70%, US orders +82%
- Operational EBITA +24% to $2.03bn, margin 20.8% vs ~20.5% expected. Book-to-bill 1.24, backlog +35% to $32.3bn
- The miss was below the line: net income $1.18bn vs ~$1.42bn consensus, partly on a ~$115M non-cash hedge revaluation tied to the Rotork deal. Revenue $9.70bn, a touch under ~$9.74bn
- Q4 guide: margin softens sequentially, though less than usual
Schneider Electric (Paris, SU) is off 2–3% after placing 25M new shares overnight at €240, a ~5% discount to Monday's €252.60 close, raising ~€6bn. The cash partly funds the $205/sh PTC deal (thread already on the board), with roughly €16bn of debt making up the rest. Settlement is due 22 Oct.
Why it matters for US scalpers: the AI power and electrical names (ETN, VRT, GEV, HUBB, PWR) have been trading as a block. When the market sells a record-orders print, that usually tells you positioning is already full, and with the US 10y at 5.14% the bar for "beat and raise" is high. Placements like Schneider's also pull money out of the group for a day or two while the new paper gets absorbed.
I'd watch whether ETN and VRT open weak in sympathy and whether that first flush gets bought. If it gets bought, the European selling was mostly about these two specific stories. If it doesn't, the crowding worry is spreading to the US names too.

Anyone trading the ETN/VRT sympathy move today, or is a European print too indirect to act on at the US open? And does anyone treat a sector-wide placement as a short-term fade signal?
