cTrader / MT5 Stock Caveats (Don't Port Blind)

MT5/cTrader muscle memory from FX/CFDs does not port cleanly into cash equities. People keep trying. The market keeps collecting tuition.
I've watched FX EAs "ported" to stock CFDs with London-session logic still hard-coded. Cute. Also wrong.
### Caveats
1. **Contract specs** — CFDs on stocks ≠ shares. Corporate actions, borrow, short rules differ.
2. **Session templates** — US RTH vs exchange calendar; your London-open EA logic is irrelevant here.
3. **Shorting** — locate / HTB / constraints may not match FX short freedom.
4. **Halt handling** — EAs that spam orders through a halt are a horror story. Heard a few.
5. **Partial fills** — more common than your FX backtest assumed.
6. **Data quality** — broker CFD chart vs actual NYSE/Nasdaq print — know which you optimized on.
7. **PDT / local regs** — platform won't save you from account rules.
### Porting checklist (tick before you brag)
```text
[ ] Instrument type confirmed (CFD vs stock)
[ ] Trading hours filter rewritten for US equities
[ ] Max orders on halt / disconnect defined
[ ] Slippage model redone with stock spreads at the open
[ ] Short permission tested with 1 share
[ ] Economic calendar logic removed if it was FX-specific
```
If someone posts an MT5 "stock scalper" with FX screenshots, ask which market the fills are on before debating parameters. Saves everyone time.
Are you on CFD stock synthetics or cash equities — and do you keep them mentally separate?
Halt behavior in your EA — defined, or "we'll see"?
Anyone burned by optimizing on CFD prints then trading a different tape?
What session filter do you actually use for US RTH in MT5/cTrader?
