Microsoft walks from Nscale's Essex AI data centre: grid power not until the 2030s — another neocloud blow

A London-side story with a US read-across, landing right after CRWV's −25% week.

What's reported (Telegraph first, then Reuters/BBC/FT/Guardian):
- Microsoft has terminated its anchor-tenant deal at Nscale's planned site in Loughton, Essex, where it had agreed to rent capacity on about 23,000 Nvidia GPUs
- Grid operators have told Nscale they don't expect a power connection until the 2030s. The site was meant to come online next year
- Nscale says it is still committed to Loughton, is looking at alternative power, and calls it a "London-wide grid issue" with no impact on other contracts. It still works with Microsoft in Norway, Portugal and the US
- The Telegraph says Microsoft is one of Nscale's two biggest customers, with more than 40% of its ~$103bn contracted revenue, though the UK deal is believed to be a small part of that. Nscale is private and has been lining up a US listing reportedly worth up to $35bn
- Microsoft declined to comment

Why scalpers should care: Nscale doesn't trade, but the headline hits the same nerve as last week. Neocloud names (CRWV, NBIS) and AI-power plays trade on the idea that contracted demand is safe, and here's a hyperscaler walking from a contract because the power isn't there. Power, not chips, keeps turning out to be the bottleneck.

I'm not reading it as a Microsoft demand signal. It's a site-specific power problem. But in a tape where AI credit spreads are at year wides, the first reaction can overshoot. I'd watch CRWV/NBIS for a gap-and-fade against the broader NQ bounce.

Do you trade neoclouds off headlines like this, or wait for the first pullback once the open settles? And is power availability now part of your AI-name checklist?
