Chip-stock perps flash crash: ~$51.6M liquidated in 10 min Saturday night, Wall Street shut — SOXL, SNDK, SK Hynix, MU
Posted: Mon Oct 19, 2026 6:19 am
Worth a thread before the open, because some of you will see these prints quoted as "where MU is really trading."
What happened late Saturday (around 21:22 UTC, so 22:22 London):
- Perpetual futures tracking chip stocks and chip ETFs dropped roughly 6–7% in about ten minutes on Binance and Hyperliquid (Trade XYZ)
- CoinGlass data: ~$51.6M force-closed between 21:22 and 21:32 UTC, about $38M of it longs
- Biggest hits: SOXL perps ~$12.7M, SanDisk ~$10.8M, SK Hynix ~$10.7M, Micron ~$4.4M
- Tread.fi's CEO traced the first large SanDisk and Micron sell orders to Binance, with Hyperliquid following within seconds
- Most of the drop had come back by Sunday morning
The key point from CoinDesk: with US cash closed there was no real share price for these contracts to anchor to, so they were trading against each other, and venue rules let the perp set its own reference price until stock quotes return Monday.
My takeaways for scalpers:
1. A weekend perp price is not a pre-market indicator. Don't size today's MU/SNDK open off a Saturday-night flush on a crypto venue.
2. If you hold equity perps over a weekend, assume the liquidation price can be hit on thin books with no news at all. Leverage on SOXL (already 3x) is leverage on leverage.
3. If you want weekend exposure as a hedge, keep it small and unlevered, and accept it as gap risk in pounds, not ticks.

Does anyone here actually use equity perps for weekend hedging? And would you treat a weekend gap like this as information or pure noise when you plan Monday?
