Travelers printed a clean beat and the stock still sold off about 4% from the open. Classic sell-the-news on the quality of the beat.

What landed:
- Core EPS $9.18 vs roughly $7.25–$7.36 consensus; revenue ~$12.41bn also ahead of the ~$11.3bn range
- Core income ~$1.95bn, helped by favourable prior-year reserve development and higher investment income
- The offsets traders are pricing: pre-tax catastrophe losses $538M (vs $402M a year ago), and personal-auto policies in force down ~9.2% y/y
- Renewal premium on personal auto actually ticked −0.6% y/y — the first decline in the series since 2017 after years of hard-market rate hikes
- Share count is also doing a lot of the EPS work: diluted shares ~7% lower y/y after buybacks

Why it matters for scalpers: the print clears the "will they beat" binary that was on the Fri BMO slate, but the tape is treating cats + auto volume as the real story. On an opex Friday I'd rather fade any bounce that fails to reclaim the pre-market high than chase the first green spike. If you trade XLF/KRE, TRV is a useful tell for how insurers vs regionals are being treated into the close.

Are you fading TRV into the close on the auto/cats mix, or treating the EPS beat as enough for a bounce? And does this change how you size other P&C names into next week?
