One of the cleaner upside movers on a rotation day: eBay (EBAY) was up more than 5% midday after Morgan Stanley named it a top pick and raised its price target to $132, which the bank says implies close to 18% upside.
The thesis in the note, as reported:
- Live selling (selling goods in real time over a livestream) is sized as a ~$27B market, and MS argues it is "driving 40%+ of EBAY's growth".
- That turns eBay from a "slow marketplace" story into a growth story, which is the kind of re-rating call that can carry for more than one session.
Context for the tape:
- It is a value/rotation-friendly day: Dow up, Nasdaq lagging, energy and financials leading, so a consumer-internet name with a fresh catalyst is getting flows while semis bleed.
- Analyst-driven gaps on large caps often trend if the first pullback holds above the opening range; if they fill half the gap by the afternoon, the call is being faded.
How I'd approach it:
- I'd mark the opening range high and low; holding above the range into the close keeps the continuation idea alive tomorrow.
- With bank earnings starting tomorrow and CPI on Wednesday, I'd keep size modest overnight. Macro can easily override a single-stock upgrade.

Anyone holding EBAY into tomorrow on this, or is it a day-trade only? Do you trust "top pick" upgrades more on rotation days like this?
EBAY ~+5–6%: Morgan Stanley names it a top pick, PT $132 — live selling seen "driving 40%+" of growth
