TLT: record month of call volume as Citi sees Bessent cutting 20y/30y auction sizes ~$3B each Nov 4

Rates tape into the week: long-end yields are still near multi-decade highs (30y chatter around the mid-5%s / ~5.6% area in recent sessions), and the options market is leaning hard the other way.

Two related headlines:
- Call volume on TLT (iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond ETF) hit a record ~14.9M contracts over the past month, with sessions where calls crushed puts. Traders are betting long-end yields come down (bond prices up) — some of that may also be hedging heavy short interest in TLT.
- Late Friday Bloomberg/Citi: strategists expect Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to cut 20- and 30-year auction sizes by about $3B each at the Nov 4 quarterly refunding, possibly even canceling 20y issuance, funded with more T-bills. A dealer survey next Friday could be an early tell if Treasury asks whether hyperscaler IG supply is cannibalizing long-end demand.

Why scalpers care:
- Bank earnings Tue/Wed and CPI Wed sit on top of this. Sticky inflation + heavy long-end supply = the yield path that has been punishing financials. Any credible supply cut is a duration-relief narrative (TLT/IEF bid, maybe some relief in rate-sensitive growth).
- Citi's trade framing was 20s outperforming 10s on reduced/cancelled 20y supply — not a blank-cheque "yields crash" call. BNP has been more skeptical that auction tweaks alone fix borrowing costs.

Monday approach:
- TLT is the liquid proxy if you want the long-bond story without futures margin. Watch whether call-heavy positioning shows up as gap support or as crowded unwind if yields push higher again into CPI.
- Don't confuse a Nov 4 announcement timeline with a Monday catalyst. Today is positioning; the survey (next Fri) and refunding (Nov 4) are the dates.

Is the TLT call pile smart money ahead of refunding, or a crowded fade into hot CPI? And are you pairing this with bank names into Tue prints?
