MRNA fresh 52-week highs on day one back in the Nasdaq-100 (replacing WBD) — index flow or ESMO run-up?

Moderna joined the Nasdaq-100 before the open today, replacing Warner Bros. Discovery (Nasdaq announced the change on 1 Oct). The stock has been one of the strongest names on the board.
The tape:
- MRNA gapped up, tagged a fresh 52-week high above $215 in the first hour, then chopped. Reports put the move anywhere from +5% to +9% through the morning, and it was pushing higher again into the afternoon.
- For context, the stock was in the low $20s at its trough and is now up several hundred percent this year, among the best performers in the S&P 500.
What's driving it:
- Index flow, mostly. More than 200 products with over $800B in AUM track the NDX. One thing to keep in mind: most passive rebalancing gets done into the prior session's close (Thursday's MOC), so today's buying isn't purely mechanical. It's more active money chasing the momentum.
- The bigger catalyst is still ahead. As we flagged in the earlier MRNA thread, the intismeran Phase 3 melanoma data is set for the ESMO Presidential Symposium on 24 Oct. Some of today's move is people positioning into that.
How I'd approach it:
- Index-add days often see a "sell the inclusion" fade once the flow is done. If MRNA fails the morning high and loses VWAP, that's the tell.
- If it holds the highs into a Friday close, it looks more like a run-up into ESMO than a one-off flow event.
- It's a very wide-range name right now, so size down versus your usual large-cap risk.

Are you trading MRNA into ESMO, or waiting for the data? And has anyone seen a clean post-inclusion fade setup work this year?
