CMS released the 2027 Medicare Advantage Star Ratings after Thursday's close, and they split managed care sharply.

Winners and losers:
- HUM: its largest MA contract, H5216 (~2.4M members), went from 3.5 to 4 stars, so it's eligible for quality bonus payments again (2027 stars pay out in 2028). It closed at $387.12 and traded ~$437 AH (~+13%). Bloomberg had it up as much as 17% before it pared. Leerink called it the clearest big winner. The stock was already up ~50% YTD.
- ALHC: its California HMO H3815, about 75% of membership, fell from 4.0 to 3.5 stars. The stock went from $8.71 to ~$6.73 AH (~-23%). In its 8-K the company blames higher cut points, weaker HOS/Part D measures and CMS removing the health equity bonus. It says there's no hit to 2026 or 2027 revenue, the impact lands in FY2028, and it plans appeals and litigation.
- CVS: ~-4% AH after ratings slipped on some large plans. UNH: roughly -0.5%.

For the open:
- HUM: two days ago Cantor upgraded it to Overweight with a $460 target, partly on the stars recovery, and the event has now delivered. A gap of this size in a ~$46B insurer brings in real institutional size. The first test is whether it holds above the AH range (~$430–437) once regular volume arrives. A fade back toward $420 would suggest the news was already partly priced.
- ALHC is a small, thin stock with a binary outcome. Expect wide spreads early, so trade smaller than usual or wait for the opening range.
- Sympathy candidates in both directions: CLOV, UNH, ELV and CNC. Check each one's own star results before assuming the read-through.

Would you chase HUM on the open or wait for a pullback? Is ALHC at -23% an overreaction when the hit doesn't land until 2028?
