The fiscal Q1 print from Lamb Weston (LW) came out before the bell, and it's a clean beat-and-raise, though the stock reaction is fairly modest so far.
The numbers (fiscal Q1, quarter ended Aug 30):
- Adjusted EPS $0.75 versus about $0.59 expected. Reported EPS was $0.21.
- Net sales $1.67B, up about 1% year over year, versus roughly $1.65B expected.
- Adjusted EBITDA $286M.
- Full-year adjusted EPS guidance raised to $3.05–3.35 (midpoint $3.20 versus street ~$3.01). Adjusted EBITDA outlook now $1.125–1.215B, up from $1.10–1.20B.
- Management credited momentum in North America and cost savings. The quarterly dividend stays at $0.38.
Shares were up about 3.5% right after the release and around 2% in early trading per WSJ.
Scalper read: a big EPS beat with only ~1% sales growth tells you this is a margin and cost-cut story, not demand coming back. That's why the move is small. I'd watch whether it holds above the pre-market high after the call digests. Food names like this usually trend slowly, so it's more of a VWAP-hold trade than a momentum chase. Worth a look at restaurant suppliers for any read-through on fry volumes.

Do you trust a beat that's mostly cost savings, or wait for volumes to turn? And anyone trading LW today or is it too slow for scalping?
