STX ~−5–6% / WDC ~−4%: Bloomberg says Seagate outbid Toshiba for TDK's HDD head unit — Toshiba capacity fear back

The hard-drive names are under pressure again. Seagate (STX) traded down around 5–6% after the open and Western Digital (WDC) about 4%, giving back much of Monday's bounce.
What's new:
- Bloomberg reported late Monday that Seagate and Toshiba are competing to buy TDK's magnetic-heads business for hard drives. Per the report, Toshiba started talks in the spring and Seagate came in with a higher offer over the summer. The deal could be worth up to several billion dollars.
- Investing.com notes Toshiba denied the report, which adds noise rather than clarity.
- It also revives last week's worry: Nikkei reported Toshiba plans to double AI data-center HDD capacity, which is what hit STX/WDC ~10% on Friday before Bernstein/Morgan Stanley talked it back on Monday.
- Investing.com also points out the Seagate CEO sold shares under a pre-arranged 10b5-1 plan in early October. Earnings are expected around Oct 28.
Context: STX is still up more than 200% YTD and WDC more than 140% (Yahoo Finance), so there's a lot of profit sitting in these.
Scalper read: this is now a headline-driven group where every Toshiba story moves both names. I'd treat Monday's low as the line in the sand. If STX loses it, the "buy the dip" crowd from Monday is underwater and that can accelerate. If it holds and memory (MU, SNDK) stabilises, a bounce trade is possible, but I wouldn't hold it through any new Japan headlines overnight.

Is a Seagate bid for a key component supplier bullish (supply control) or bearish (cost, regulators) in your view? And are you trading STX/WDC as a pair or picking one?
