Mon prep: ES/NQ green into open — MidEast vs Trump-Xi week; WTI slips under $100

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Quiet earnings Monday, so the open is mostly macro + geo headlines.

Overnight tape (Asia/Europe into US pre-market): equity futures were bid — ES roughly +0.3%, NQ a bit firmer — after Friday’s semi bounce. Cap on the bid: MidEast still hot after weekend Houthi strikes on Riyadh / Yanbu, while oil actually eased on diplomacy hopes. Reuters Mon: Brent/WTI touched multi-session lows, with WTI briefly under the $100 handle (~$98 area early) as traders priced possible US–Iran talks around UNGA and stronger Saudi Hormuz flows offsetting East-West disruption.

Week’s calendar: Thu Trump–Xi in Washington after Bessent/He Lifeng “Board of Trade” talks in NY (procedural progress, no tariff rates yet). Light equity prints Mon — ABVX AMC is the notable single-name. Index-flow residue from Fri’s S&P rebalance still in the books.

Watchlist: ES/NQ opening range vs overnight mid; XLE/XOP if crude holds the sub-$100 fade; Mag7 only if NQ ORB holds.

Sources (paraphrase): Reuters oil 21 Sep; futures/geo wrap Gate/EconoTimes 21 Sep.

Fading WTI strength into the open if $100 fails to reclaim, or waiting for RTH confirmation?
Anyone marking Trump–Xi week as a vol event for semis / China-beta names, or just noise until Thursday?
