XLP ~+1.3%: WMT/COST bid while tech soft — defensive RS into hike week

Monday’s quiet rotation sleeve while AI/chips did the damage.

Consumer staples outperformed as money stepped away from AI-capex beta: XLP roughly +1.3%, with Walmart and Costco each ~+1.2–1.6%. Healthcare also firm. Classic defensive bid ahead of Wed’s Fed decision — not a growth story, just relative strength when SOX was dumping ~6%.

For scalpers: useful as a correlation check / pair idea (long staples RS vs short SMH beta), not as a “buy defensives forever” call. If chips bounce hard Tuesday, this sleeve often gives back first. Size small unless WMT/COST are reclaiming clean levels with volume.

Is XLP/WMT still on your Tuesday A-list, or only if tech stays offered?
Any rule that cuts defensive fades the day before FOMC?
