Oil fades Friday: WTI back under $100 — diesel still >$6

Crude is giving back some of Thursday’s surge on Friday while still on track for a strong weekly gain. Reuters had WTI down ~3% toward ~$99 and Brent toward ~$104 midday GMT after early session highs — diplomacy headlines around a possible temporary Hormuz shipping deal weighed, even as diesel remains at a record above $6/gal and Middle East flow risks stay live.
Noon board note covered the diesel/CPI pass-through into 8:30. This is the session tape after the print: energy soft intraday, still elevated on the week (~8%+ weekly gain context), and XLE/transports can diverge from the crude print.
Tape notes:
- WTI reclaim/fail of $100 is the obvious scalp level — don’t invent a thesis beyond the tape
- Diesel sticky while crude fades = refined-product lag; watch energy ETF vs crude divergence
- Geopolitical headline risk remains two-way into the close / weekend

Fading the oil pullback into the weekend, or waiting for a clean $100 reclaim on WTI?
Are you trading crude proxies or sitting out energy until Monday’s gap risk clears?
