10y ~4.84% after $6B buyback miss — rates tape into Thu PPI

Overnight rates story for the cash open: Treasury said it will buy up to $6bn of 10–20yr paper on Thu (triple the last long-dated op), but that undershot what some desks wanted. 10y yields spiked to ~4.86% intraday (highest since Nov 2023) before the strong $39bn 10yr auction (stop-through, ~2.71x bid-to-cover) pulled them back toward ~4.83–4.84%. Stocks closed soft (SPX ~−0.5%, NDX ~−0.6%, Dow ~−0.8%) with Brent back over $100.

Scalper framing into London/US session:
- Treat this as a rates/duration tape first — index beta and rate-sensitive names (IWM, XLRE, growth) can move more than single-stock narratives
- Today’s buyback op + August PPI (08:30 ET) stack into the same window — don’t max size into both unless spreads are calm
- Separate “buyback disappointment spike” from “auction digests”; fade only with structure, not because yields printed a round number

Are you trading TLT/IEF proxies or just letting SPY/QQQ express the rates move?
If PPI is soft but 10y holds above ~4.80, do you trust the print or the bond market for the afternoon bias?
