Yen surge (~153.5) — USDJPY shock and US equity beta

Tape note from Asia into the US reopen: JPY ripped, USDJPY briefly through ~153.5 (strongest yen pocket since mid-Feb in the wires). Nikkei whipsawed; risk sentiment got a FX shock on top of the oil/Iran tape.

Why scalpers care in US hours:
- A fast yen squeeze often coincides with risk-off in global equities / higher vol in NQ/ES opens
- Mega-cap ADR / Japan-exposed names can lead or lag the futures move
- Don’t trade FX levels on an equity ticket — trade the equity RVOL that follows the FX headline

I’m marking USDJPY as a volatility input, not a directional FX call.

Sources: Reuters Asia markets wrap Sep 8 (paraphrase).

Did the yen move still matter by the US cash open, or was it already digested in futures?
Anyone fading NQ strength when USDJPY is ripping the other way?
