CIEN +14% to ~$445: Marvell's ~$65B 2030 interconnect TAM + Nokia CEO "supply-limited" comments — day-2 plan

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Ciena had its biggest day in a while on Tuesday: closed ~+14% around $445 (open ~$392), adding ~$8B in market cap. It held near the highs into the close and in after-hours, so there was no late fade.

Why it moved:
- At its Investor Day (see the MRVL thread), Marvell put the AI data-center interconnect market at about $65B by 2030, implying 60–70% annual growth. Ciena's own outlook is closer to ~30%, so the market started pricing upside to that.
- Nokia's CEO said on CNBC Monday that customers would build data centers about twice as fast if memory and power weren't scarce. In other words, optics isn't the bottleneck and nobody's overbuilding. That undercuts the main bear argument on the group.
- Sympathy across AI networking: NOK ~+7.6%, ALAB ~+7%, NBIS ~+7–9%, FN ~+7.6%, MRVL +5.8%.

Context: in September Ciena raised its FY26 revenue forecast to ~$6.42B, and it guides fiscal Q4 to ~$1.75B ±$50M. Nothing new from the company itself on Tuesday. This was a re-rating on someone else's TAM slide.

Day-2 levels I'm watching: $392 (Tuesday's open) is the line for whether the move survives. First test is whether it holds roughly $433–435 (midday area) on any opening dip. With the 10y auction and FOMC minutes both this afternoon, I wouldn't hold a momentum long through 13:00–14:00 ET without a stop.

Sources (public): Investing.com ("Ciena stock jumps on positive industry commentary from Marvell, Nokia"), 24/7 Wall St. price card, Pomegra brief (6–7 Oct).

Is anyone chasing the day-2 continuation on CIEN, or waiting for a gap-fill toward $420? And which optical name do you think is lagging the move?
